Latest update: After fighting us since day one, and acting like creating a Dog Tethering Law in Clinton County would actually destroy his entire world— Francis Peryea and his wife announced they purchased a home in Iredell County North Carolina. I’m guessing they didn’t do any research in advance, because Iredell County North Carolina has a strict supervised Dog Tethering Law in place, and it has been in place since 2022. I’m not sure how they’ll be able to survive in a county with a dog tethering law in place! Maybe they’ll need to sell their home! Were they fighting us just to fight us, because now suddenly they don’t care if they live in an area with a Dog Tethering Law in place??? If we are lucky they’ll move there and never come back!

FRANCIS PERYEA IS ONE DIRTY CROOKED POLITICIAN! EVERY TOWN IN HIS AREA THAT WE VISIT- HE HAS BEEN THERE TELLING THEM TO NOT CREATE A TOWN LAW. Francis has fought extremely hard to ensure dogs remain on chains in Clinton County, and that our animal cruelty laws remain archaic.

Francis Peryea sits on the Clinton County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee and has continued to vote a tethering law down at every opportunity. He has not provide any feedback on the law, voted against a public hearing both in October 2024 and in June 2025, and has been against this law since day one. When the legislature voted on a proposed law in October, two legislators were absent, yet Francis voted against waiting for them to return. He pushed the vote to ensure it would not pass, knowing that we needed full attendance for the vote.

Francis Peryea said we should go to the towns for town laws, but then he went to all his towns and told the town councils to not work with us. Every meeting we attend, Francis is there, or has been there telling the town council to not work with us. Worse yet now, Francis has the entire Clinton County Republican committee believing that we are the problem, and encouraging none of the Republicans in the area to work with us. Towns that were working with us, are now not answering our calls and e-mails. I can’t even believe anyone would follow Francis Peryea anywhere, or believe anything he has to say!

• We attended the Dannemora town meeting back on July 30, 2025 and after the meeting we were told he approached the town council and discouraged them from working with us. Despite this, Dannemora is drafting a law and scheduling a public hearing.
• We attended the Altona Town Meeting on August 11th and Francis told town council members and the animal control officer to go after us- putting us under attack in that meeting.
• We attended the Ellenburg Public Hearing and same story, we were under attack and in this case actually accosted even on our way out the door, and outside. Everything the towns people accused us of, was not true. There were people in the meeting yelling at us accusing us lying about Francis Peryea’s actions- when his actions can all be found on in the legislature meeting minutes and in the meeting videos.
• Francis Peryea is a very desperate man who is very scared to lose his legislature seat, and he should be. MOST OF THE COUNTY WANTS HIM GONE! Instead, vote for Deryl Gregory for Clinton County Legislator in 2025!

On July 13, 2025 I had an altercation with Francis Peryea and his wife, and one of my team members witnessed the entire event. An entire golf cart full of Altona Republican Committee members also witnessed the entire event as it unfolded, they were parked feet away from his truck when this happened. 

On Sunday July 13th, 2025 we were setting up for the Altona parade. Francis pulls his truck into the parade line close to us, and his wife starts screaming that she will not be beside us in the parade! Everyone was looking and she was screaming! (Honestly if I had been one of their Republicans, I would have thought… this woman’s nuts!)

Altercation: Once the Altona parade was over, we were taking our float apart and Francis and his wife were watching us from across the parking lot for about 2-3 minutes. They finally pulled up beside our float and he says “playing games are we?” And I said “well Francis don’t think we aren’t going to fight back!” His wife then starts calling me a “F-ing B” and telling me to “go to hell”. She was acting nuts! She was very mouthy. Francis says “you don’t put my name on your float!” I said “well the sign says “Legislators fighting us hard, and isn’t that true Francis? Are you saying you haven’t been fighting us hard?” He had nothing to say. He then says “I will not be voting for this law while I am legislator!” And then I said, “well I guess we had better get you voted out then!” Then his wife calls me an “F-ing B” again and drives away in their truck. I only wish I had my phone handy and I was recording during this conversation. Lisa one of our volunteers was standing behind the banner and witnessed the entire conversation. She was in disbelief.

Francis is describing this altercation very differently. Of course with a different version that doesn’t make him look bad, putting all the blame on us. He is now going around and trying to ensure we do not pass a law in any of his towns, or in any towns in Clinton County. There were many witnesses who saw this altercation and who will agree this is exactly what happened.

Francis Peryea is also proud to admit that he raised dogs his entire life and kept them outside either in a kennel or on a chain. You can watch the below video where he admits it in the October 2024 legislature meeting.

Unfortunately we are stuck with Francis Peryea for the next term. Hopefully the other legislators set him straight and fix this problem. He is a problem legislator who spends all his time ensuring we do not pass a dog tethering law.
