DON’T WAIT FOR “SOMEONE” TO STOP ANIMAL ABUSE. YOU ARE SOMEONE.

FRANKLIN COUNTY NEW YORK ANIMAL CRUELTY TASK FORCE

Our neighbor to the West.

Franklin County Animal Cruelty Task Force is a team in Franklin County, New York, dedicated to addressing animal abuse and neglect. It was approved by the county Legislature in late 2017.

Key features of the Task Force:

  • Focus: The task force focuses on abuse, neglect, and abandonment cases, as well as providing assistance to pet owners facing challenges with the cost of animal care.
  • Comprehensive Approach: Members from various county departments, including the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Social Services, and the Office for the Aging, collaborate with local nonprofit groups such as Precious Pups and Focus on Ferals to tackle these issues.
  • Funding: While receiving support from county agencies, the Task Force itself does not receive county funding. Instead, a separate  Animal Coalition has been established for fundraising to support their work.
  • Equipment: The dedicated fundraising efforts have allowed the task force to acquire useful tools like heat guns, which help detect unsafe temperatures for animals in vehicles and other enclosures.
  • Potential Link to Domestic Violence: Task force efforts may also help uncover cases of domestic violence that may have previously gone unreported.
  • Reporting Animal Cruelty:
  • Animal Response Team (CART): Franklin County also has a volunteer County Animal Response Team that coordinates animal rescue, sheltering, transportation, and care during emergencies and disasters.
  • Statewide Resources: The National Link Coalition provides information on reporting suspected animal abuse throughout New York State, including contact information for various counties.
