The following town/villages in Clinton County have taken the initiative to draft and approve their own Dog Tethering Law. If you are a town considering drafting your own law, give the below mayors/town supervisors responsible for these towns/villages a call. They are happy to discuss how they created their own law, and to tell you how it’s going.
The Town of Ausable- The Town of Ausable created their own Dog Tethering Law in the spring of 2024. It’s simple and reads as follows:
The Village of Champlain- The Village of Champlain amended their Village dog laws in June of 2024 and they included a Dog Tethering Law within their village dog control law.
The Town of Champlain- The Town of Champlain used the same law we had created for the county, with a few minor changes. The law was approved by the Town of Champlain on April 8, 2025. Champlain was very much in support of a countywide law, but decided to move forward on a town law.
The Town of Plattsburgh- The Town of Plattsburgh approved their Dog Tethering Law on May 8, 2025. They took the Champlain law and made a few corrections as they felt they were necessary.
The Village of Rouses Point- The Village of Rouses Point approved their Dog Tethering Law on June 16, 2025. Their law is identical to the Town of Champlain’s law in every way.
